Comets, Shubunkins and Fans (Fantails) are some of the most popular of goldfish varieties, all very hardy and ideally suited to being kept indoors and outdoors throughout Australia.
The Shubunkin was developed in Japan circa 1900, and quickly became very popular in western countries. Like the Comet, it is a slender fish, ideal for garden and ponds, and the unheated aquarium or bowl. It has been developed into several different forms, these mainly differ by tail shape. Shubunkins can be extremely variable in colour, which is part of their appeal.
These varieties are not fussy about water conditions or diet, and are very easy to care for. Like all goldfish, they are quite peaceful.
