Current Category Goldfish > Ryukin
The Ryukin is a deep-bodied form of fantail, which was originally developed in Japan (they are still extremely popular in that country).
As these fish mature, they develop a characteristic hump behind the head and become progressively deeper bodied - the body depth of some specimens can be 75-80% of their body length. Ryukins also develop quite intense colouration, the red and white and the calico are good examples of this.
Broad tail and short tail Ryukins have also been developed.
Ryukin are well suited to unheated aquariums and bowls, and can also be kept outdoors (provide protection from predators such as cats and birds).
They are not fussy about water conditions or diet, and are quite easy to care for. Like all goldfish, they are quite peaceful.
