The Pearl Scale is a very attractive and popular fantail-type goldfish. Their scales are convex, creating a very appealing dimpled effect. They have quite rounded bodies, with some specimens looking more like a ping-pong ball with fins!
The variety became established in China in the 1920's, and several different variations and colour forms now exist.
Pearl Scales are best kept indoors in an unheated aquarium or bowl, they are not fussy about water conditions or diet, and are quite easy to care for. If kept outdoors, ensure they have adequate protection from cats or birds, as the Pearl Scale is not a fast moving variety. Like all goldfish, they are quite peaceful.
