With amazing head growth and long flowing fins, the Oranda is one of the most impressive fancy goldfish varieties. First developed in Japan in the nineteenth century, Orandas are immensely popular and have been progressively developed into a wide range of colours.
The unusual head growth (or "hood") develops with age. Young fish may show no discernible head growth whereas some large specimens may have such pronounced head growth, it is starting to cover the eyes.
Orandas are well suited to unheated aquariums and bowls, and can also be kept outdoors (provide protection from predators such as cats or birds).
They are not fussy about water conditions or diet, and are quite easy to care for. Like all goldfish, they are quite peaceful.
