With a lovely jet-black colour, protruding eyes and a nice double tail, the Black Moor is one of the most popular of goldfish varieties. It is an ideal fish for the unheated aquariums or bowl and makes a nice contrast to brightly coloured fish such as Comets and Ryukins.
The Black Moor is also a hardy fish for outdoor ponds, but protection from predators may be needed (e.g. wire meshing or netting, or for a less obtrusive barrier: fishing line criss-crossing above the pond can be effective against birds.)
Black Moors are not particularly fussy about water conditions or diet, and are quite easy to care for. Like all goldfish, they are quite peaceful.
This variety is believed to have first appeared in China in the 19th century.
