With distinctive fluid filled "bubbles" directly under their eyes, Bubble Eyes are one of the most bizarre-looking of fancy Goldfish varieties. The Bubble Eye was first developed in China in the early twentieth century, but did not become well known until after World War 2. This variety also has a double (paired) tail fin and normally does not have a dorsal fin. (However a Bubble Eye with a dorsal fin has also been produced in China).
Bubble Eyes are best kept indoors in an unheated aquarium or bowl, with other slower moving goldfish varieties. With their highly developed form, they can have difficulty competing for food when housed with quick moving fish such as Comets.
If kept outdoors, ensure some protection from predators is provided, as the Bubble Eye is an easy target for cats or birds.
Bubble Eyes are not fussy about water conditions or diet, and are easy to care for. Please ensure they are handled with care to avoid damaging their bubbles.
