AFRICAN LONGFIN TETRA 7CM This is a very active tetra native to West Africa, which also grows larger than most commonly kept tetras.  Mature males can be determined by their much longer dorsal fin.  With no special requirements and growing to 12cm, this is a good species to keep with medium-large community fishes such as sharks and barbs.

These African Tetras are all extremely hardy and go well in community aquaria.  In general these fish grow to a massive size in the region of 10cm.  Standard foods are accepted but they will show best condition when fed on foods such as frozen bloodworm.
BLIND CAVE FISH 3CM
Being blind is no hindrance to this active tetra, as it expertly detects food items by scent.  It has a very healthy appetite and sometimes may nip long finned fish in its enthusiasm to eat.  An easy to keep species growing to 8-9cm, suitable tankmates should be other hardy types of similar size.

FLAMEBACK BLEEDING HEART TETRA 3CM The Flameback is the rarest of the Bleeding Hearts, easily identifiable by its red colouration above the lateral line.  Extremely difficult to breed, stock available to the aquarium trade is wild caught.  It prefers soft slightly acidic water and looks best in a planted aquarium with dark gravel.  Maximum size is usually 5cm.

PERU BLEEDING HEART TETRA 3.5CM This is a dramatic looking tetra from the upper Amazon, deep bodied and the males also developing a very long dorsal fin.  Extremely difficult to breed, stock available to the aquarium trade is wild caught.  It prefers soft, slightly acidic water and looks best in a planted aquarium with dark gravel.  Maximum size is 5-6cm.

GLASS BLOODFIN TETRA 3CM This is an active schooling tetra, usually seen swimming in the top half of the aquarium.  They are fairly adaptable to varying water conditions, including moderately hard alkaline water.  With their transparent bodies and bright red tails, the Glass Bloodfin makes an interesting addition to any community aquaria containing similar sized peaceful species.  Grows to 5-6cm.

RATHBUNI BLOODFIN TETRA 3CM The rathbuni Bloodfin tetra is peaceful and grows to approximately 4.5cm.  After settling into their home, they will display the characteristic red colouration on the lower half of the posterior part of the body.

DIAMOND TETRA 3CM Diamond Tetras are an attractive fish, with diamond-like sparkling scales and milky-white fins.  Maturing males develop longer fins and often try to outshine their rivals.  Originally native to Venezuala, they are commonly bred for the aquarium trade.  They are ideal community fish, peaceful, showy and grow to about 6cm.

EMPEROR TETRA 3CM This is a very popular, graceful looking tetra, native to Colombia.  Mature males are easily determined by their blue eyes and longer fins.  Best kept in a planted aquarium with other peaceful species, it is not unusual to have self-sustaining populations in heavily planted aquaria.  Maximum size is about 5cm.

BLUE EMPEROR TETRA - KERRI 3CM This is a slightly smaller species compared to other Emperor Tetras, only growing to about 4cm.  It is best kept in aquaria that either receives some side light or that is not too brightly lit from above, otherwise the Blue Emperor's colours may appear pale and washed out.  In the right lighting, males are a luminous blue to mauve.  It is a very good community fish, active and peaceful.

ALBINO GLOWLIGHT TETRA 3CM

With a bright red stripe, Glowlights are a very popular tetra, an ideal companion for Neon Tetras and other peaceful fishes.  Hardy and easily cared for, they look best in a school in a dark bottomed tank.  Maximum size is about 4cm.

The Albino form has a light golden body colour.

GOLD TETRA 2.5CM These wild caught tetras from South America have an unusual appearance as if coated in gold dust.  The gold pigment is due to the fish's skin reacting to a skin parasite which is present in its natural habitat.  (This does not pose a health risk to the tetra or its tankmates.)  Interestingly, captive bred Gold Tetras do not develop the gold pigmentation like their wild caught parents.  A peaceful community fish, which can grow to 5cm.

Hatchet fish are small surface-feeding species with deep, compressed bodies and strongly developed pectoral fins.  If startled, they are able to easily take flight and jump quite long distances.  Difficult to breed, most aquarium stock is wild caught.  An interesting oddball, best kept in a small school in a planted aquarium with similar sized peaceful species.  Silver Hatchet Fish grow to about 4cm.

LEMON TETRA 3CM Lemon Tetras are one of the many small peaceful tetras, ideal for the community aquarium.  They like plenty of open swimming space with some plant thickets for security.  Feeding colour-enchancing foods rich in natural carotenoids will help promote their body colour, it can be yellow to almost orange in optimum conditions.  These fish grow to 4-4.5cm.

NEON TETRA 2CM Neon Tetras are easily the most popular of all tropical fish with their amazing colour and peaceful schooling nature.  They prefer soft slightly acidic water, and water temperatures about 20-24 C, but can tolerate other conditions as long as extremes are avoided.  They look great at any time, but particularly when kept in planted aquaria in large schools.  Do not keep them with large fish, as Neons only grow to 3.5cm.
